Botox Treatment For Chronic Sweating

The FDA in 2004, approved the use of Botox in Dubai for a condition called Hyperhidrosis or severe underarm sweating. Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition caused by over stimulated sweat glands. People with this condition often produce four to five times more sweat than a normal  person. 

Experts at the Skin Care Clinic in Dubai have identified the following as triggers for Hyperhidrosis,

• Exercise
• Environmental conditions such as extreme cold and heat
• Food such as alcohol, coffee, tea, smoking, hot or spicy food
• Stress, anxiety and strong emotions 

If a notice that you have  excessive sweating of at least 6 months duration with at least two of the following characteristics, that you  are suffering from Hyperhydrosis, and this can be treated with Botox.

• Bilateral and relatively symmetrical sweating
• Makes it impossible to attend to daily activities
• At least one episode per week
• The symptoms occurred before the age of 25 years
• Family history
• Cessation of sweating during sleep 

Botox has been  proven to be an effective hyperhidrosis treatment.  A small dose of the Botox solution is  injected through a very fine needle into the underarm area  and Botox temporarily blocks the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When these glands don't get the chemical signals they need, the excessive underarm sweating stops. The treatment will take about 5 - 10 minutes, is absolutely painless and the treatment is reported to last 6 - 9 months. The effects of the treatment vary from person to person. Depending on how severe the Hyperhidrosis, multiple injections will be required. Once the patient has the treatment, within about 1 - 2 weeks they may see a significant reduction in underarm sweating.

Some of the pre-treatment instructions that a patient should follow include,

• Firstly, shave the area 24 hours prior to the procedure
• Before the procedure, avoid hot beverages or going to the gym
• Avoid using deodorants and other underarm products
• Patients should not consume alcohol before the procedure
• Any sort of pain management medication should not be taken

 What should a patient expect,

• An Iodine solution will be painted in the area
• Starch powder will then be sprinkled and will be allowed to settle for 10 minutes.
• A blue-black mark will identify the affected area of perspiration.
• The area will then be circled and marked.
• The Botox treatment is then injected next to each pen marking 

Some of the post treatment instruction for the procedure includes, 

• Avoiding the use of deodorant for 12 hours
• Avoid heavy exercise for 24 hours
• Once the Botox treatment is administered, the patient needs to gently clean and dry the underarm area using a mild soap.
• Patients may see results in as little as 7days, and the treatment can be totally effective in 14 days.
• Contact the Clinic if you experience sweating in the treated area after 14 days.
